APID is an association of dance movement therapists with specific training and regular professional experience, whose statutory obligations include:

1. qualify Dance Movement Therapy in Italy,
2. promote and safeguard its professional, ethic and scientific value,
3. draw a DM therapist profile,
4. establish and promote an italian board of DM therapists,
5. promote legal recognition of DMT as a profession,
6. promote the exchange with associations and people professionally dealing with uneasiness,
7. take care of the correct information about DMT and its appliances.

APID was established in 1997 by a group of DM therapists with a background of significant experiences in the most important Italian schools. The foundations of the association were laid thanks to a long, considered and passionate meditation which started in1994.

Today APID gathers DM therapists from all over Italy. It also has regular exchanges with several foreign associations (American Dance Therapy Association, Association Européenne de Danse- Thérapie, European Conference for Professional Development of Dance Movement Therapy).

A national congress and a general meeting take place yearly. President and board of directors are supported by operative commissions that promote studies about professionalism, ethics, training
research and communications.
